Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Dele-Michael is not only a successful entreprenuer, speaker, and beauty expert but it’s clear to see that her passion to change the lifestyle of others is out of this world. In her effort to empower and educate others, we wanted to learn more her love for skincare and ask about skin lasers and if it’s safe for women of color.
Tell us what interested you so much about the skincare industry?
I am a Board Certified Dermotologist and taking care of people’s skin and ensuring their skin, hair, and nails are healthy is the core of what I do. I’m interested in skincare because what people do on their skin has an impact on their health. For instance, theres a lot of trends out there now for natural products. Sometimes it can be a good thing and sometimes it can be a bad thing. I’m always on the lookout for whats going on and the trends so that I can be of assitance to patients when they come into the office to discuss their skin.
Do you believe skin lasers are good for women of color?
Yes. Specific skin lasers are good for people of color. It’s a myth that women of color cannot use laser safely. I own a lot of lasers that are safe for women of color. From laser hair removal to lasers that can correct acne-scarring, lasers that can help restore hair loss, etc. There are also devices that can used to sculpt the body. Those are all safe for women of color. There are a lot of new devices that have been released in the last few years that have made an impact on the health of women of color because it’s safer, effective, and treats a lot of concerns.
How do you believe one can get the plastic surgery look without actually getting plastic surgery?
I typically discourage my patients from going for the plastic surgery look because the look is not natural. It doesn’t look natural. A lot of my patients want to go for the natural-looking augmentation or surgeries. The best way to look more natural when you’re doing anything for your skin is first of all, make sure that your skin is healthy. If you have a really clean, healthy palette, it’s easier to do whatever modifications you want to do whether it’s botox or toxins in general. You want to work with a Board-Certified dermatologist that can help you select the right treatments so everything looks natural and not a mask. There are some people that want that look but most of my patients want a natural looking aesthetic that will enhance their look without taking over their face.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
In the future, you’ll be seeing a lot more of me incorporating the latest and greatest devices that are safe for women of color in my practices. A lot of times I post videos or blogs about treatments that I do for people of color to kind of educate the masses about the skin. I want to work more on skincare products. Right now, there are a lot of skincare products on the market but not every skincare product is safe or targeting concerns of women of color. The skincare products that I will be developing over the next few months to years will address the issues that women of color have. I will also be coming out with sunscreen that protects ultraviolets and blue light. Blue light is another one that is becoming an issue right now. I am going to be developing a line for natural hair for women of color so that women of color that wear their hair naturally can keep their hair healthy.
