Atlanta pro makeup artist Nico Johnson popularly known as Nico Dymynd continuously slays and proves in her work that she can do it all! Just recently, Johnson was hired on as one of the makeup artists for Megan Thee Stallions’ YouTube series, Hottieween. We caught up with the beloved makeup artist to talk beauty, working with Megan Thee Stallion, her makeup classes, and much more!
Tell us about yourself. What made you want to get into the world of beauty?
I’ve always had an interest in beauty from the time I was a child. I knew that was drawn to the industry and never thought I’d be practicing in the capacity that I am right now. I’m from Atlanta, GA and I’m a full-time stylist. I started in college while going to Florida A&M University then decided to move back to Atlanta to pursue my dream.
You recently worked with Megan Thee Stallion for her YouTube series, Hottieween. What was that experience like for you?
I’m honored to have been able to be apart of the Hottieween glam team. Just six months ago I was wondering where I would offer my services after the boutique I worked at suddenly closed down. I was referred by Princess one of the producers and was completely shocked.
I had the opportunity to join the glam team for Hottieween and was one of many artists to pull off the looks. Specifically I did the makeup of Megan’s stunt double, the detective and three other “Hotties”that were seen throughout the episodes that were being sought after by the F boys.
It was surreal to work around such a passionate team. We worked long hours often getting off after 1 AM. There was no small job and the entire team was always working no matter what was going on. The energy was truly unmatched.
All I can say is you never know where your talents can take you. I’m blessed and grateful.
The makeup classes you offer sell out! What do you offer during these classes?
My one on one classes and group classes all consist an open and hands-on learning experience. My parents are educators so it brings me joy to be able to teach other women who are either looking to improve their craft or learn for themself. My students are taught my different methods for lash extensions, makeup application, and hair styling.
Are there any upcoming projects you could give us insight into? How do you plan to expand your brand in the years to come?
I look forward to facilitating various group and one on one classes this upcoming new year. I plan to expand my brand in the years to come by standing out and being able to touch as many women’s lives through my artistry as possible. I hope to franchise several beauty bars all over the world and teach my techniques to stylists everywhere.
