Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett won second runner up in the 2017 Miss Universe pageant. The beautiful 21 year old shined with her natural afro, breaking so many stereotypes and stigmas surrounding the Miss World pageants for decades. There were 92 countries competing in this year’s competition, more than ever before. With each year’s Miss Jamaica never winning the title of Miss Universe, speculation was already high around Bennett. Miss Jamaica this year in Las Vegas however quickly became a popular favorite. Her natural hair and sense of style became a point of interest among spectators. Sources say Bennett got contestant compliments during preliminaries by judges on her hairstyle, which may have given her a major edge over the competition regarding individuality.
Davina is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in marketing. She continues her philanthropy through her organization the Davina Bennett Foundation for the deaf, breaking the stigma of working with hearing loss.
