Derricka and Erricka are twin sisters managing one of Atlanta’s most talked about salons, Transformations Beauty Studio! Derricka is a licensed cosmetologist with more than 10+ years of experience in beauty and hair. Erricka takes on the business, marketing, and the logistics role behind the “Transformations Beauty Studio” brand. These sisters have managed to run a successful business featuring some of Atlanta’s best talent in beauty from lash extensions, makeup application, natural hair, and weaves! Numerous celebrities, influencers, and bloggers have graced the salon such as; B Simone, Vena Excell, Nadirah Ali, Keely The Boss (LHHATL), Nikki Allure, Dr. Heavenly (Bravo TV), and most recently WE TV’s Remarkable spicy orange extensions. These ladies are constantly thinking of ways to evolve and grow the transformations brand. August 9th they will debut “Transformations Luxury Extensions.” This collection will feature Mink Brazilian Extensions, Cambodian, Burmese, and Indian Extensions featured in straight, body wave, loose waves, and curly textures. These sisters are no strangers to hard work. These boss twins discussed with us how they stay focused, committed, and relevant in such a saturated industry.
How have you continued to keep your brand consistent, fresh, and relevant?
We have been able to stay relevant in providing services with the latest trends. We leverage our influence by collaborating with social media influencers. Lastly but not least, we provide a great customer service experience.
What was the hardest thing or roadblock you’ve overcome on your journey?
The hardest thing is just getting the right people on your team. You will need great staff and people who want to put in the work and not just give up when it doesn’t look easy. We’re currently building with the perfect team at Transformations Beauty Studio!
What made you want to start a luxury extensions line?
Based on our surveys and clients expressed they wanted hair that lasted longer, looks great and feels amazing! We also wanted to offer hair textures that many aren’t offering to set us apart from your typical virgin hair store.
How did you decide on the patterns, textures, and color extensions that you would carry?
We post different pictures and videos of hair. We utilize our social media platform and we very quickly noticed the engagement from our clients with each post. And that was the ultimate determining factor of what the clients loved, liked and or preferred.
What are some ways that you practice for self-care?
We make sure we schedule ourselves for the gym. We make sure we eat properly and keep ourselves together because we promote Transformations and we believe in a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
How do you manage motherhood and entrepreneurship?
I balance motherhood by scheduling my clients to fit my life schedule. I also have a big support system with my kids and business. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Do you feel the salon is a form of therapy for clients?
Absolutely! The hair salon is a safe zone for many women. We make our clients feel welcomed and comfortable. At transformations, we have a family feel and no judgment zone. Clients love that and it gives them a sense of relief that they can talk to someone.
How do you enhance your clients’ experience?
We enhance our client’s experience by engaging with them and always doing temperature checks to ensure they are enjoying their visit. We love asking their plans for that day and recommending services that we think will help them achieve their look.
What’s your favorite part of being an entrepreneur and salon owner?
Our favorite part of being an entrepreneur is the smiles on our client’s faces and the love and support that we receive from them. It is a wonderful feeling helping a person transform their looks and the way they feel. It is truly a form of therapy and relaxation.
